Christopher Barnett is Assistant Director of the Center for Applied Research and Environmental Systems (CARES) at the University of Missouri - Columbia. Chris has been with CARES since 1992, and has worked extensively with geographic information technologies (GIT).

His early work combining GIT and Internet technologies contributed to the development of the CARES Map Room and a variety of web-based information and assessment tools, including the Missouri Comprehensive Community Needs Assessment website. He has been actively involved in the creation and development of the Community Commons web site, overseeing much of the technology support. Chris’ current interests continue focus on the practical application of data and tools in an internet environment.

Chris, a native of Missouri, received his B.A. in Geography in 1990 and M.A. in Geography in 1992, both at the University of Missouri. He is also a member of the Missouri Board on Geographic Names. Chris lives in Columbia, Missouri, with his wife and two children.
