The session will discuss the critical role of parks and recreation professionals to counteract “nature deficit disorder” and sedentary lifestyles through the inclusion of natural elements in park settings, with a focus on community participatory methods combined with in-house, design-built installation.

Recognize the growing concern about children’s lack of engagement with nature;
Learn strategies that parks and recreation professionals can use to engage children and families with natural settings in community parks;
