The City of Dallas Park and Recreation Department developed a hike and bike Trail Network Master Plan in 2005 that has led to the development of over 153 miles of trails (an additional 46 miles are currently under construction or in design). The trail network has been a partnership between the department and other public and private entities from the beginning, most notably in terms of capital development. The department is now working to further build the network by improving connections.
